Pre-Prosthetic Surgery
The preparation of your mouth before the placement of a prosthesis is referred to as pre-prosthetic surgery.
The prosthesis is the lab-crafted tooth or denture. When a natural tooth is extracted, the underlying bone might be sharp and uneven. The bone might need to be smoothed or reshaped for the denture or prosthetic to fit comfortably. Occasionally, excess bone may need to be removed prior to placing the denture.
Dr. William Gray will examine your profile and explain any essential pre-prosthetic procedures, but please feel free to direct any questions to your oral surgeon so that you fully understand the reason for the treatment as well as the expected outcome.
Possible pre-prosthetic surgery procedures include:
- Bone smoothing and reshaping
- Removal of excess bone
- Bone ridge reduction
- Removal of excess gum tissue
