Bar Attachment Dentures
What Are Bar Attachment Dentures?
Understanding the Process of Fitting Bar Attachment Dentures
The Bar Attachment Denture procedure involves a multi-step treatment plan carefully designed for long-term function and comfort. Here’s an overview of the typical process:
Initial Consultation and Assessment
Every patient journey starts with a comprehensive consultation at one of our convenient St. Louis locations: South County, Festus, or Creve Coeur. During this appointment, our oral surgeon evaluates your oral health through digital imaging and discusses personalized treatment goals. This assessment often includes X-rays or CT scans to evaluate the jawbone’s condition, crucial for the next steps.
Preparatory Care
In some cases, pre-surgical treatments such as extractions or periodontal therapy may be performed to ensure a healthy foundation for implant placement. Wondering when tooth extraction is necessary? We cover that too.
Dental Implant Placement
Four titanium dental implants are strategically inserted into the jawbone. Two of these are often angled to maximize bone-to-implant contact and avoid anatomical structures, a technique explained more in our guide to the dental implant process.
Healing and Osseointegration
Following surgery, a natural biological process called osseointegration allows the implants to fuse with the jawbone over the course of several weeks to months. During this time, you’ll receive a temporary prosthesis so you can continue to smile and speak confidently.
Bar & Final Prosthesis
After healing is complete, a precision-machined titanium bar is attached to the implants. This bar serves as the anchor upon which your final custom denture will securely snap into place, providing unmatched stability and comfort.
Follow-Up and Adjustments
Post-treatment visits allow us to fine-tune your prosthetic for fit and performance. These check-ins help ensure long-term success of your implant-supported denture. For tips on maintaining success, see our article on preventing implant complications.
Benefits of Bar Attachment Dentures
Cost-Effective: Only four implants per jaw are needed, reducing overall treatment costs.
Minimized Bone Grafting: The strategic angling of posterior implants often eliminates the need for bone grafting procedures. Learn more about bone grafting in oral surgery.
Shorter Treatment Timeline: Temporary teeth can be placed the same day as your surgery, allowing you to resume daily activities much sooner..
Renewed Functionality: With a stable, durable dental bridge, you're free to enjoy your favorite meals again—without fear of slipping or discomfort.
Bone Preservation: Dental implants help stimulate the jawbone, preventing future bone loss. Learn more about how teeth impact jawbone health.
